Safety

  • All members should have appropriate hill walking boots, clothing and equipment for walking in mountain terrain.
  • Check the mountain weather forecast the night before and pack your rucksack accordingly.
  • Walks begin punctually so leave enough time to get to the start of the walk.
  • Consider sharing transport
  • Walkers should follow the leader and not attempt to lead the walk or force the pace.
  • The group must keep together. If a member wishes to leave the group during a walk, please inform the leader.
  • Members must accept the leaders decisions.
  • Most bad accidents occur when proceeding downhill so take extra care.
  • Avoid climbing over fences or walls where possible. Use stiles and close gates except when meant to be left open.
  • Know where you are on the mountain. The 1:25000 Ordnance Survey Mourne Country Outdoor Pursuits Map or Activity Map is used
